42 is pleased to announce “Joy as an Act of Resistance” a solo exhibition by Misha Milovanovich.

The exhibition is open from 1 October and remain on view through January 1st. Misha Milovanovich is a Belgrade-born artist living and working in London.

Misha works across several mediums, from sculpture to painting and live art.

Characterised by vivid colour, optical movement and energetic visual cadences, Misha's visual work fuses a diverse repertoire of images and forms. She often features discarded shards of consumerism - unloved icons of disposability and careless consumption.

In light of the recent political and worldly happenings, Misha has created a new sculpture humorously titled “Joy as an Act Of Resistance”, with the human condition as her central theme and starting point. The title was inspired by an album with the same name and rage energy by a Bristol based band called: Idles.

Misha’s return to sculpture comes from her newly found love for ceramics, playfully combing sculptural elements with her more regular medium of painting. Misha’s latest piece is based on Alexandres Calder’s sculpture “Cock and Balls”, made in 1932.

Simultaneously tipping her hat to a great master and reworking it into her own language this sculpture is as much about the art market as it is about life it self. Is the artist asking “Are we all fucked”. Or can art save us all. Can we sustain this relentless tumbling and crashing lifesycle, our elect politicians lying, austerity, the Orange monstrosity, the global refuge crises and lets not forget Brexit. The artists only hopes, whilst creating, to playfully inspire and suggest that trough joy, conversation and the rebuilding of community spirit we can make this world great for all again.
